Zamboanga Peninsula

Inflation rates in Zamboanga Peninsula continued to slow down further at 3.0 percent in July 2023, from 4.6 percent in June 2023. Inflation in July 2022 was higher at 8.3 percent.
(Table A and Figure 1)

The primary driver in the region's inflation downward trend was the lower increase in the indices of Restaurants and accommodation services at 7.9 percent from 9.8 percent in the previous month, Food and Non-alcoholic Beverages at 4.5 percent from
6.3 percent in the previous month and Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels
at 1.1 percent from 3 6 percent in the previous month.

Also contributing to the overall inflation in Zamboanga Peninsula during the period were the lower annual increments in the indices of the following commodity groups as compared with their previous month's inflation rates:

1)    Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 5.5 percent from 6.6 percent;
2)    Clothing and footwear, 2.5 percent from 2.9 percent;
3)    Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance,
3.3 percent from 4.2 percent;
4)    Health, 3.9 percent from 4.0 percent;
 

5)    Transport, -6.8 percent from -4.8 percent;
6)    Information and communication, 0.8 percent from 0.9 percent;
7)    Recreation, sport and culture, 3.3 percent from 4.2 percent; and
8)    Personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services, 3.2 percent from
4.0 percent.

Meanwhile, annual inflation retained in the indices of Education Services and Financial Services at 2.6 percent and 0.0 percent, respectively.

Likewise, food inflation in Zamboanga Peninsula continued to slow down to 4.5 percent in July 2023 from 6.3 percent in June 2023. In July 2022, food inflation was higher at
8.8 percent. The deceleration of food inflation wasprimarily influenced by the slower growth of Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses at 18.4 percent from 19.0 percent in the previous month.; and Milk, other dairy products and eggs at
7.0 percent from 8.1 percent in the previous month.
The following food groups recorded to have lower increments:
a)    Meat and other parts of slaughtered  land animals, -1.1 percent from
1.8 percent;
b)    Fish and other seafood, -1.3    percent from 2.4 percent.
c)    Oils and fats, 4.2 percent from 10.6 percent;
d)    Fruits and nuts, 7.6 percent from 10.6 percent;
e)    Sugar, confectionery and desserts, 15.0 percent from 25.2 percent; and
f)    Ready-made  food  and  other  food  products    n.e.c.,  5.8  percent  from
7.5 percent.
On the other hand, the following food groups were observed to have higher increments:
a) Cereals and cereal products, 5.0 percent from 4.7 percent
Among the provinces in the region, City of lsabela had the highest inflation at
6.0 percent, followed by Zamboanga del Sur at 3.8 percent, Zamboanga Sibugay at
2.9 percent, Zamboanga del Norte at 2.7 percent, and the City of Zamboanga recorded the lowest inflation at 2.3 percent.
