A.    Zamboanga Peninsula

1)    Headline Inflation

Inflation rate in Zamboanga Peninsula retained a flat inflation rate of 0.2 percent in June 2025 and July 2025 consequently bringing the region’s average inflation from January to July 2025 to 0.8 percent. Inflation rate was higher in July 2024 at 5.3 percent. (Table A and Figure 1)

The inflation was seen to remain unchanged in the Food and Non-alcoholic Beverages index, posting a (1.7) percent inflation in both June and July 2025. Likewise, there were minimal changes in the prices of the categories within the indices of Health at 3.5 percent, and Financial Services, which stood at 0.0 percent.

Also contributing to the overall inflation in Zamboanga Peninsula during the month of July were the higher increments in the indices of the following commodity groups as compared with their previous month’s inflation rates:

1)    Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 3.8 percent from 3.5 percent;
2)    Clothing and Footwear, 1.9 percent from 1.5 percent;
3)    Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, 2.8 percent from 2.6 percent;
4)    Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance, 3.2 percent from 3.0 percent; and
5)    Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services, 2.0 percent from 1.5 percent;

In contrast, lower inflation rates during the month were recorded in the following categories:

1)    Transport, (2.5) percent from (2.1) percent;
2)    Information and Communication, 0.0 percent from 0.1 percent;
3)    Recreation, Sport and Culture, 2.9 percent from 3.0 percent;
4)    Education Services, 5.1 percent from 6.4 percent; and
5)    Restaurants and Accommodation Services, 3.8 percent from 4.3 percent.

 Food Inflation

The monthly Food inflation in Zamboanga Peninsula further decreased to (2.2) percent in July 2025 from (2.1) percent in the previous month. Meanwhile, food inflation in July 2024 was higher at 6.9 percent.


2.1 Main Drivers behind the Downtrend of the Food Inflation.


This month’s downtrend in the categories of Food was mainly due by the slower increase in the prices of Cereals and cereal products which stood at (14.9) percent from (14.1) percent in the previous month. Similarly, the deceleration within the indices of Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses (ND) at (2.2) percent in July 2025 from (1.6) percent in June 2025, and Ready-made food and other food products n.e.c (ND) at 0.2 percent from 0.7 percent in the previous month.

In addition, the following food groups were observed to have lower increments during the month:

1)    Rice, (19.6) percent from (18.6) percent; and
2)    Corn, (17.2) percent from (15.5) percent.

In addition, the following food groups were observed to have higher increments during the month:

1)    Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals (ND), 6.5 percent from 5.8 percent; 
2)    Fish and other seafood (ND), 8.3 percent from 7.3 percent; 
3)    Flour, Bread and Other Bakery Products, Pasta Products, and Other Cereals, 2.8 percent from 2.4 percent; 
4)    Oils and fats (ND), 0.7 percent from (0.2) percent; 
5)    Fruits and nuts (ND), 13.8 percent from 12.2 percent; and
6)    Sugar, confectionery and desserts (ND), 1.3 percent from 0.9 percent.

Milk, other dairy products and eggs (ND) retained its previous month’s inflation with 9.5 percent.


Among the provinces in the region, Zamboanga Sibugay had the highest inflation at 0.6 percent, followed by Zamboanga del Norte at 0.4 percent, City of Zamboanga at 0.3 percent and City of Isabela with 0.1 percent inflation. On the other hand, Zamboanga del Sur recorded the lowest inflation which stood at (0.6) percent inflation.
