16 FEBRUARY 2023, Zamboanga City- In celebration of the 33rd Civil Registration Month (CRM) this February 2023, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Regional Statistical Services Office IX conducted the 2023 Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Quiz Bee for LCRO’s Regional Finals on 15 February 2023 at Badjao Hall, Garden Orchid Hotel, Zamboanga City which started at exactly 1:00 in the afternoon. The champion in the regional finals will represent the region to the 3rd National CRVS Quiz Bee for LCRO’s in Metro Manila on 27 February 2023.

The quiz bee focuses on information regarding the creation of PSA, trivia, history, new laws related to CRVS, business processes, policies and procedures on CRVS, Information Technology Project 2 (ITP2), and new projects and programs of the agency.
Regional Director Mewchun WS. Pamaran, in her message, expressed her sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the participants who in one way contributed their all-out support to make the event successful.

There were eight (8) final contestants for the CRVS Quiz Bee Regional Finals, from the province of Zamboanga Del Sur is Ms. Maricel B. Tigoy, Registration Officer IV of LGU Aurora with 15 years in service and Ms. Zuraida C. Jalem, Municipal Civil Registrar of LCRO San Pablo, with 20 years in service. From the province of Zamboanga Del Norte is Ms. Jezebel B. Cantoja, Registration Officer II of LGU Polanco with 4 years in service, Mr. Earl Maynard R. Baes, Administrative Assistant 1 of LGU Dipolog City with 4 years in service and Ms. Frechie M. Cubol, Municipal Civil Registrar of LGU Salug with 13 years in service. From the province of Zamboanga Sibugay is Mr. Robert R. Guieb, Clerk IV of LGU Titay with 12 years in service, Mr. Juvian G. Balatayo, Bookbinder III of LGU Titay with 13 years and Mr. Franklin O. Galabin, Bookbinder II/Data Collector of LGU Imelda with 10 years in service.

There were three rounds (easy, average, difficult) administered with ten (10) questions per round in a multiple-choice answer. Two contestants tied in the first and second rank, thus a clincher round was administered and the champion was declared. Mr. Robert R. Guieb of LGU Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay emerged as the Champion of the CRVS Quiz Bee Regional Finals followed by Mr. Earl Maynard R. Baes of LGU Dipolog City, Zamboanga Del Norte as the 1st Runner-up and Ms. Jesebel B. Cantoja of LGU Polanco, Zamboanga Del Norte as the 2nd Runner-up. The top three winners received a trophy and a medal from PSA RSSO IX and a cash prize sponsored by the Region Nine Association of Civil Registrars, Inc.(RNACRI).

The CRVS Quiz Bee for LCRO’s Regional Finals is in line with this year’s month-long celebration of 33rd Civil Registration Month with the theme “PSA@10: Providing Efficient and Effective Civil Registration and Vital Statistics through Digital Transformation”.

The Civil Registration Month is celebrated in February of every year pursuant to Proclamation No. 682 signed by the former President Corazon C. Aquino on 28 January 1991. This annual celebration aims to remind the Filipinos of their duty to register acts and events concerning status of persons, enhance nationwide awareness and appreciation of the legal, administrative and statistical values of civil registry documents.
