Philippine Statistics Authority Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Statistical Office conducted Fraud Awareness Campaign. This campaign informed individuals that the only mandated agency for the registration of National ID is through the authorized registration centers spearheaded by the PSA. It was also emphasized that registration to National ID cannot be transacted online because aside from the collection of demographic information from the registrant such as name, sex, date of birth, place of birth, blood type, address and marital status, the registration process also involves the capturing of biometric information of the registrant such as iris and fingerprints scanning and front-face photograph capturing.
The data collected will then be verified to avoid duplication and forwarded to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) for printing. The BSP ensures that the security features of the National ID cannot be imitated and undergoes again a quality check before releasing to the Post Office for the delivery.
The whole process of having a National ID from registration, printing to delivery does not collect any fees. The PSA exhaust all its efforts to reach unregistered individuals just to avail to its services for free and even conducted mobile registration by purok and by barangay, mall registration, school registration, institutional registration and registration on wheels.
In order to conduct Fraud Awareness Campaign effectively, the co-location with the Department of Social Welfare Development’s (DSWD) Family Development Sessions (FDS) to Pamilyang Pantawid Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries does not only limit to National ID registration but also information dissemination and flyers distribution regarding the consequences of using Fake National ID and advantages of registration to National ID.
This activity aims to strengthen awareness to individuals to avoid online services offering fake National ID and ePhilID printing which is costly. Possible penalties and fines when caught using or printing unauthorized National ID/ePhilID in accordance to Section 23 of Republic Act 11055 or otherwise known as the “Philippine Identification System Act” were also discussed.
