Zamboanga City
Headline inflation in Zamboanga City increased to 7.4 percent in February 2023, from 6.8 percent in January 2023. Inflation in February 2022 was lower at 3.4 percent only.

The main contributor in the uptrend of inflation in Zamboanga City for 
February 2023 was the higher year-on-year increase in the index of Food and Non Alcoholic Beverages posted at 7.3 percent this month from 5.7 percent in January 2023. This commodity group also ranked first in terms of share to inflation trend. The index of Health is another contributor in the uptrend of inflation this month posting 4.3 percent from 2.5 percent in the previous month and ranked second in the share to inflation trend. Likewise, Recreation, Sport and Culture index registered 4.9 percent this February 2023 from 3.6 percent in the previous month ranking third in the share to inflation trend.

On the contrary, lower annual increase was observed in the index of Clothing and Footwear posted at 2.4 percent during this month.  The other commodity groups that have also contributed to the downward trend of the headline inflation for February 2023 were the following:

a.    Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels, 10.0 percent


b.    Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance, 6.4 percent 
c.    Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services, 3.2 percent

Meanwhile, a number of commodity groups have retained their previous month’s inflate rate:

a. Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, 10.8 percent
b. Transport, 10.3 percent
c. Information and Communication, 0.4 percent
d. Education Services, 6.1 percent
e. Restaurants and Accommodation Services, 5.0 percent
f. Financial Services, 0.0 percent

Food inflation in Zamboanga City accelerated to 7.9 percent during this month from 6.0 percent in January 2023. In February 2022, food inflation was recorded at 
3.3 percent only. The following food groups recorded higher increments:

a. Cereal and Cereal Products, 3.5 percent
b. Cereals, 2.1 percent
c. Rice, 2.1 percent
d. Corn, 3.9 percent
e. Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals, 9.6 percent
f. Fish and other seafood, 3.9 percent
g. Fruits and nuts, 11.3 percent
h. Vegetable, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses, 20.3 percent

Meanwhile, the Food index of Milk, other dairy products and eggs recorded at 
6.3 percent remained its previous month’s inflation rate with Oils and Fats posted at 4.4 percent and Ready-made food and other food products n.e.c, registered at 8.9 percent.

The food indices for Flour, Bread and Other Bakery Products, Pasta Products 
and Other Cereals and Sugar, confectionery and desserts exhibited slower inflation rate at 6.6 percent and 26.4 percent respectively. (Table C)
