15 March 2025 – ZAMBOANGA CITY. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Regional Statistical Services Office set up a National ID registration at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) last March 15, 2025.
The partnership between the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to provide National ID registration in detention centers is a major step toward ensuring that all Filipinos, including those who are in jail, have access to an official form of identification. By making this service available inside detention facilities, inmates can register for a government-issued ID, which will be useful for handling legal matters, filling out important documents, and completing necessary documents.
Having a National ID is important for daily needs, securing rights, and accessing different services from government agencies and private organizations. This identification can help Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) connect with programs that assist them, apply for legal benefits, and prepare for life after their release.
This initiative reflects a strong commitment to fairness for social inclusion. It ensures that even those deprived of liberty are not left behind and are allowed to have proper identification. By providing them with a National ID, the program helps them reintegrate smoothly into society once they complete their sentences, giving them a better chance to rebuild their lives and become productive community members.
