Zamboanga City
Headline inflation in Zamboanga City for January 2023 continued to slow down which was recorded at 6.8 percent from 7.8 percent from the previous month (December 2022). In January 2022, inflation was recorded at 4.8 percent only. 
(Table A and Figure 1)

The main contributor to the downtrend of inflation in Zamboanga City for 
January 2023 was the lower increase in the index of Food and Non Alcoholic Beverages posted at 5.7 percent from 6.9 percent in December 2022. This commodity group also ranked first in terms of share to inflation trend. The Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels index also contributed in the downtrend of inflation with 11.4 percent from 13.2 percent in the previous month and ranked second in the share to inflation trend. Likewise, Information and Communication index was observed to decelerate at 0.4 percent from 2.1 percent in December 2022 ranking third in the share to inflation trend.

The other commodity groups that have also contributed to the downward trend of the headline inflation for January 2023 were the following:

a.    Restaurants and Accommodation Services, 5.0 percent
b.    Transport, 10.4 percent 
c.    Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, 10.8 percent
d.    Recreation, Sport, and Culture, 3.6 percent
e.    Health, 2.5 percent

On the other hand, the commodity groups for Clothing and Footwear at 2.6 percent, Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance at 6.6 percent and Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services at 3.3 percent were all observed to have higher annual increases for January 2023. Meanwhile, Education Services at 6.1 percent and Financial Services at 0.0 percent have retained their previous month inflation rates.

Food inflation in Zamboanga City further decelerated to 6.0 percent in January 2023 from 7.4 percent in the previous month. In January 2022, food inflation was recorded at 7.6 percent. The following food groups recorded lower increments:
a.    Corn, 3.1 percent
b.    Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals, 8.2 percent
c.    Fish and other seafood, 1.0 percent
d.    Fruits and nuts, 9.5 percent

Meanwhile, higher food inflation was observed in the following food indices: 
a.    Cereal and Cereal Products, 1.9 percent
b.    Milk, other dairy products and eggs, 6.3 percent
c.    Oils and Fats, 4.4 percent
d.    Vegetable, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses, and eggs, 15.8 percent
e.    Sugar, confectionery and desserts, 32.0 percent
f.    Ready-made food and other food products n.e.c, 8.9 percent
The food index for Flour, Bread and Other Bakery Products, Pasta Products and Other Cereals remained its previous month’s growth rate of 7.4 percent. (Table C)
