2021 Zamboanga del Norte Registered Live Births decreased by 8.1%
The total number of registered births for the year 2021 in Zamboanga del Norte reached 13,152. It reflects an 8.1% decrease from the previous year’s total of 14,309 births.
The third quarter (July to September) of 2021 recorded the highest number of registered births contributing 3,522 or 26.8% to the total. It had a 0.6% decrease from the same quarter of last year with 3,544 records. The second quarter (April to June) closely followed with 3,363 births contributing 25.6% to the total. It had a 6.9% decrease from the same quarter of the last year’s figure of 3,614. Furthermore, the last quarter of 2021 recorded a 35.2% decrease of births compared to the same quarter of last year (see Figure 1).
August had the highest number of registered births contributing 1,1219 or 9.6% to the total (see Table 3). Approximately 40 births occurred daily in the month of August. On the other hand, February recorded the least number of births contributing 821 or 6.2% to the total, with a daily average of 30 births.
As shown in figure 2, the province recorded more male births with 6,795 contributing 51.7% to the total. While female deaths contributed 6,357 or 48.3% to the total.
Zamboanga del Norte contributed 27.8% to the total deaths occurred in Region IX. The province fell closely behind Zamboanga del Sur, which had the biggest share of registered births contributing 28.5% to the region’s total of 47,350. Meanwhile, the City of Isabela contributed the lowest share of births with only 2.2%.
Focusing on Zamboanga del Norte, Figure 4 shows that the City of Dipolog recorded the highest number of registered births in 2021 with 1,657, followed by the Sindangan with 1,450; City of Dapitan with 1,136; Labason with 670, and Liloy with 597. Approximately 42 in every 100 deaths occurred in these five cities/municipalities. Meanwhile, the municipality of La Libertad had the least number of registered deaths in 2021 with only 106 records.
TECHNICAL NOTES
Vital statistics are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register. Vital acts and events are the births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and all such events that have something to do with an individual's entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime.
Live Birth is a complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of conception, irrespective of the duration of the pregnancy, which after such separation, breathes or shows any other evidence of life, such as beating of the heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, whether or not the umbilical cord has been cut or the placenta is attached; each product of such a birth is considered live born.
