1. Inflation Rate for the Bottom 30% Income Households
Zamboanga City’s inflation rate for the bottom 30% income household decelerated to 0.2 percent in April 2025 from 0.7 percent in March 2025. This was comparatively lower than the overall inflation rate of 5.8 percent posted April 2024 (Refer to Table A and Figure 1.)
1.1 Main Drivers to the Downtrend of the Inflation Rate for the Bottom 30% Income Households
The decrease was primarily driven by the slower annual increase in Food and Non-alcoholic Beverages, which eased to (1.4) percent from (0.9) percent in the previous month. In addition, the decline in prices within the indices of Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services at 0.8 percent from 2.2 percent, and Restaurants and Accommodation Services, with 1.2 percent from 2.7 in March 2025, also contributed to the downtrend in the inflation rate for the bottom 30% income households in the city.
Lower increments were also observed in the following commodity groups:
a. Transport, with (2.3) percent from (1.3) percent inflation in March 2025;
b. Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels at 5.4 percent from 5.6 percent; and,
c. Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance, (0.2) percent from 2.3 percent in the previous month.
Meanwhile, the following commodity groups retained their previous month’s inflation rates:
a. Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, 0.3 percent;
b. Clothing and Footwear, 0.8 percent;
c. Health, 2.4 percent;
d. Information and Communication, 0.0 percent;
e. Recreation, Sport and Culture, 5.3 percent;
f. Education Services, 6.1 percent; and,
g. Financial Services, with 0.0 percent inflation.

2. Food Inflation
The monthly Food inflation for the bottom 30% Income Households in Zamboanga City decelerated to (1.4) percent from (0.9) percent in March 2025. This was lower than the recorded Food inflation in April 2024, which stood at 7.0 percent inflation.
Slower annual increases were observed in the following food commodities:
a. Oils and fats, 1.4 percent from 1.5 percent;
b. Ready-made food and other food products, 1.7 percent from 5.4 percent;
c. Sugar, confectionery and desserts, 3.9 percent from 4.2 percent;
d. Fish and other seafood, 1.9 percent from 2.4 percent;
e. Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas and pulses, with 6.0 percent from 10.1 percent; and,
f. Fruits and nuts at 26.9 percent 32.3 percent;
Meanwhile, a higher year-on-year growth rate were recorded within the food indices of:
a. Cereals and cereal products, (11.4) percent from (11.5) percent;
b. Milk, other dairy products and eggs at 3.7 percent from 2.0 percent; and,
c. Meat and other parts of slaughtered land animals, with 5.9 percent from 4.9 percent in March 2025.
