In an effort to generate up-to-date and disaggregated data at the local level, the PSA-Sibugay has successfully handed over the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) data in 2022 obtained from the Municipality of Siay. Siay was one of the LGUs that participated in the CBMS roll-out in 2022. The ceremonial activity was held on 23 January 2024 at Casa De Coco, Kimos, Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay. Present during the ceremony were PSA RSSO-IX Regional Director Mewchun W.S. Pamaran, PSO-Sibugay Chief Statistical Specialist Atty. Richard D. Tabigne, PSA employees, barangay captains, and LGU officials and employees headed by Hon. Mayor Jarvis M. Acosta.
RD Pamaran delivered an inspirational message, emphasizing the importance of granular data and the relevance of the CBMS results in their program formulation, particularly those that were geared toward alleviating the poverty situation of its populace.
CSS Atty. Tabigne presented the highlights of the 2022 CBMS results, covering data on basic services like access to electricity, internet, main sources of water, service level of toilet facility, households' perception on safety when walking alone in the community, household experiences of food insecurity in the past 12 months, socio-demographic characteristics, education details including reasons for not continuing school, education facilities, labor force and employment, barangay health facilities, housing unit characteristics, and disaster preparedness.
Meanwhile, Hon. Mayor Acosta delivered his acceptance message, underscoring that the municipality is now guided as to where to focus its programs especially the vulnerable sector of the community. Whereas, Engr. Emedio R. Suan, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator and Data Protection Officer presented the plans and programs that will utilize and ensure security of CBMS data.
The activity provided an opportunity for the PSA to strengthen its commitment to the LGU, ensuring that the collected and processed data becomes a beneficial tool for planning, policy-making, and impact monitoring. It was also made possible and realized as a result of the collaborative efforts of the PSA and the local government of Siay and its constituents.
