13 March 2024 – ZAMBOANGA CITY. The Philippine Statistics Authority – Regional Statistical Services Office (PSA-RSSO) IX conducted the Zamboanga Peninsula’s January 2024 Inflation Report through a hybrid set-up. Ms. Mewchun WS. Pamaran, Regional Director of PSA-RSSO IX presented the inflation report at Function Hall, PSA-RSSO IX, Zamboanga City. Also, present during the hybrid press conference were Ms. Ma. Flerida E. Tan, Officer-In-Charge SOCD Chief, Mr. Jeffrey B. Gaballo, Statistical Specialist II, Ms. Michelle Grace C. Natividad, Information Officer I, Mr. Alexis James D. Chiong, Assistant Statistician – ENRA and Mr. Alghabid G. Inggal, Statistical Specialist I – PPA.
The headline of the inflation report brings the year-to-date inflation for the year 2024 to 1.8 percent by January 2024 versus December of 2023 with 3.7 percent of inflation and January 2023 with 8.5 percent inflation rate as reference month.

The top contributor to the overall inflation this January 2024 was Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages which had 4.1 percent inflation at 90.4 percent share to the overall inflation. The second commodity group that largely contributed to the overall inflation in January 2024 was Transport which had -1.2 percent inflation and 5.8 percent share to the overall inflation. The third major contributor to the overall inflation was Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services which posted 2.3 percent inflation, particularly personal care like hairdressing salons.

Meanwhile, the commodity groups that showed a negative inflation were:
Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels posted -4.1 percent inflation; Transport, -1.2 percent inflation; and Financial Services, -0.4 percent inflation.

On the other hand, three commodity groups posted higher percent inflation in January 2024, these are the following: Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels, -4.1 percent inflation; Health, 3.9 percent inflation; and Recreation, Sport and Culture, with 3.2 percent inflation.
