The meeting brought together the members and representatives from various provincial government agencies, local government units, and other sectors. Presiding over the meeting was PSC Vice Chairperson, Atty. Richard D. Tabigne of PSA Zamboanga Sibugay.
The meeting commenced with preliminaries, during which the presiding officer formally called the session to order and moved on to the main proceedings. The provisional agenda was then presented and approved by the body, allowing the meeting to proceed with in-depth discussions on the following key topics:
• Updates on the 2024 Community-Based Monitoring System and Census of Population and Housing (POPCEN-CBMS) presented by Ma. Theresa R. Sumicad, Provincial Focal of the 2024 POPCEN-CBMS. During her presentation, she expressed deep appreciation to the local government units (LGUs) for their invaluable support and cooperation throughout the implementation of the 2024 POPCEN-CBMS operations. She emphasized that the assistance extended by the LGUs played a crucial role in ensuring the overall success and smooth conduct of the activity.
• Mr. Camilo M. Bagsican of PSA Zamboanga Sibugay delivered a presentation on the statistical data of key agricultural commodities in the province. His discussion placed particular emphasis on Zamboanga Sibugay’s top-performing or “champion” agricultural products, showcasing their production levels and significance to the local agricultural economy.
• Mr. Ephraim I. Sagaral presented the March 2025 Inflation Report of Zamboanga Sibugay. His presentation provided valuable insights on the movements of prices of goods and services commonly purchased by household units.
• Dr. Ulysses Silorio from the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Health Office presented the 2024 Field Health Services Information System (FHSIS) Report. His presentation focused on several key areas, including child health, women’s health and safe motherhood, population and development programs, environmental health and sanitation, as well as morbidity and mortality statistics.
Furthermore, the secretariat organized trivia questions at the end of each discussion to encourage interaction among the committee members. Prizes were awarded to those who answered correctly, with the questions exclusively focused on topics covered in the previous PSC meetings.
Mr. Camilo M. Bagsican also addressed other important matters regarding the roles and responsibilities of each PSC member. He highlighted that various agencies have distinct data requirements and that members are encouraged to propose or request specific indicators through formal resolutions. In light of this discussion, Dr. Ulysses Silorio from the Provincial Health Office proposed the inclusion of essential health data, particularly vital statistics and family health information for Zamboanga Sibugay. His motion was seconded by Mr. Reylin L. Colona from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, which was then approved by the body.
The quarterly PSC meeting aims to address various statistical issues. As the policymaking body, the PSC is responsible for resolving provincial statistical challenges, creating and managing a comprehensive databank that supports decision-making, and overseeing all matters related to the socio-economic development of the province.
